Open your confirmation email and list each item and price.

Common add-ons

• Seat selection: often refundable if the flight is cancelled, sometimes not if you cancel
• Checked bags: usually refundable if unused
• Meals and extras: depends on the airline
• Upgrades: may be credited or refunded, depending on the fare

If the airline cancels

You are generally entitled to a refund of unused services as well as the ticket.

If you cancel

Ask for each add-on to be refunded or credited, and request an itemized breakdown in writing.
